So I saw a new version of Google Earth was released when I went to Google maps tonight to find a restaurant and when I went to download it a Google Updater program started and began downloading Chrome and Google Earth. I never was prompted whether I wanted Chrome or not it just seemed to inject itself in there and there was no way to cancel Chrome without cancelling the Google Earth download. To a novice, it might appear that Chrome was a pre-requisite for Google Earth. Sly move Google but you didn’t fool me.
Thanks Google, now, if I ever hear somebody complain about Microsoft’s perceived “dirty tricks” I have some ammunition against the darling of the open source community.
Apple did the same thing last year with Safari and iTunes. hmm… software update for iTunes. OK. Oh look a new browser. Where’d that come from.
